ALLEN EUGENE CHEYNEY age 91, beloved husband of Ellen of Berea, Ohio for 71 years, dear father of Terry A. (Diane) of LaPeer, MI, Thomas W. (Dawn) of Berea and Cindi Myers of Berea, dear grandfather of Christine Gunther of Brook Park, OH, Judd Cheyney (Sarah) of Miami, FL and Kenny Myers (Caroline) of Painsville, OH, beloved brother of Nadine O'Neill of Strongsville, OH and Tom Tibbits of Arizona, great grandfather of Nevaeh and Anthony Gunther and uncle to many.
Al was born in Cleveland, Ohio and was raised in Berea where he excelled in athletics. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve our country proudly on a destroyer escort on the Pacific Front in WWII. After serving, he returned home to marry his true love, Ellen.
He attended Baldwin – Wallace College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree and the obtained a Masters in Education from John Carroll University.
Allen's Career was in education in the North Olmsted School system, where many knew his as a teacher, coach, Athletic Director and High School Administrator. He was also an accomplished official/referee, working with various crews for decades in football, basketball and his biggest athletic love, baseball. He primarily worked high school and sandlot ball along with collegiate and Canadian professional football.
Allen loved following the Indians, working in his yard and was proud to be a recipient of the Berea Jaycee's Chrismas Lighting contest. He also enjoyed working on family genealogy and dedicated endless hours enriching his children and grand children's lives.
Friends may call on FRIDAY NOV 2, 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the BAKER, OSINSKI, KENSINGER FUNERAL HOME 206 FRONT ST. BEREA where funeral services will be held Saturday AT 10:00 a.m. Interment Woodvale Cemetery.
