John W. Miller, Jr.

JOHN  W. MILLER, JR.,82, of Olmsted Twp. Ohio  left our world on July 27, 2018.  John was Professor Emeritus of Biology at Baldwin Wallace University and after  retirement worked for 12 years as a naturalist at the Metroparks nature center at Brecksville, Ohio. John would say that he was a fortunate person having loved his family and his work. He had received the Strosacker and Beckberger awards at Baldwin Wallace for teaching and for working with students outside of the classroom. The natural world was of such importance to John.  He loved encouraging others to be engaged in the fascinating world of nature.  John received his BS degree from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. and his PhD degree from Penn State University in State College, Pa. John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Miller (nee Wollaver) and children, Susan Ziegelhofer (James), and John D. Miller ( Beth), Grandchildren, Stephanie Brown (M.D.), Anne Miller and Madeline Miller, Daniel Ziegelhofer, and Great-grandchildren, Rebecca Rains and Addyson Brown, James Ziegelhofer and Jacob Ziegelhofer, Brother, Paul S. Miller, Brother- in- law, Richard Wollaver (Vera), and Niece Diane Peterson (Ryan) and Nephew, Keith Wollaver (LaDonna). Cousins Janet Albrycht (Hank), Pierre Thoumsin (Debbie), Abbie Wilson (John), Micah Thoumsin (Allison). A Memorial Service followed by time to greet the family, share a lunch and reminisce together will be at the Berea United Methodist Church, 170 Seminary St.,Berea, OH on Saturday, October 6th at 2 PM.  Memorial contributions may be made to Baldwin Wallace University 275 Eastland Rd., Berea 44017,  The Cleveland  Metroparks, 4101 Fulton Parkway, Cleveland, OH 44144, The United Methodist Church, 170 Seminary  St.,Berea, OH 44017.
