WILLIAM HENRY MANTHEY, age 91, passed away May 3rd. Born August 24, 1927 in Cleveland and resident of Berea since 1969. Devoted husband to Swea (nee Jamison), brother of the late Jean McCulloch, father to Linda Froehlich, Mark (Lori), Eric (Heather), and Sheryl (David Lane), loving grandfather to Jared, Levi, Ryan, Kurt, Quinn and the late Joshua Michael. Friend to so many others that he met throughout his life, and particularly those in “the gang.” A true adventurer and traveler, who saw much of the world on his bicycling, backpacking, hiking, skiing, canoeing, and whitewater rafting trips. Highly respected union electrician, apprentice program instructor for 25 years, and loyal member of IBEW Local 38 since 1947. Volunteer work included trail building and maintenance, and towpath trail ambassador, with the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, housing construction for Habitat for Humanity, archiving for the Berea Historical Society, mission trips to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and building maintenance as a trustee for Messiah Lutheran Church, where he was a devoted member since 1958. An avid bicyclist, toured by bicycle in more than 20 states, including a cross-country ride at the age of 69, as well as Canada and Europe. He will be greatly missed, but his adventurous spirit will live on through his surviving friends and family members, who dearly loved him and admired all that he accomplished in his very full life. Funeral service on Monday May 13 at 11:00 AM at Messiah Lutheran Church 21485 Lorain Rd. Fairview Park. Internment at Riverside Cemetery and light reception to follow. The family will receive friends and relatives at the BAKER, OSINSKI, KENSINGER FUNERAL HOME 206 FRONT ST. BEREA on SUNDAY May 12 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM.
