Irene Helen Simmons, age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 7 surrounded by those who loved and cared for her. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Annie MacFarlane, and by her husband, Robert Simmons. She was a loving mother to Pamela (Michael) Holland and Michael (Molly) Simmons; sister to Betty Rosenjack; aunt and great-aunt; and friend to many.

Irene was born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised near Clark Avenue and West 82nd Street. She was a graduate of West Tech High School, class of 1959, where her friends knew her as "Mickey." After graduation, she entered the workforce and had a variety of skilled jobs in accounting, ultimately retiring from Citizens Bank, where she worked in savings reconciliation. Outside of work, Irene loved spending time with friends and family, gardening, walking in the MetroParks, hand feeding chickadees, and eating out at her favorite restaurants. She was a longtime member of Pleasant Hills Church and enjoyed spending many hours with friends at lunch and weekly crafting. Irene was proud of her Scottish heritage and loved to attend the annual Scottish Games, picnics, and concerts.

Family will receive visitors on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Pleasant Hills United Methodist Church, 13200 East Bagley Road, Middleburg Heights, Ohio, 44130. Visitation will take place from 9:30AM to 11:30AM; a celebration of life memorial service will follow at 11:30AM and a luncheon for all guests will be at 12:30PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Hills United Methodist Church.
