Obituary

Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and beloved member of her community, Jo Ann Boggs, peacefully passed Saturday, October 7th, at the age of 89. Jo Ann is survived by her forever loving husband Jerry Boggs, of 66 years. The bond of motherly love and friendship will not be forgotten by their 3 daughters; Anita Ferut (John), Carol Boggs (Laurel McDargh) and Kristi Boggs (Chris Tomek), or son Douglas Alan, having passed in 1978. Jo Ann cherished and celebrated her 5 Grandchildren, Erin Jew (Jason), John Ferut (Hayley), Oscar Ferut (Meagan), Grace Stec (Graham), Lucy Ferut and was given the gift of 8 Great Grandchildren Amelia, Elsie, Daniel, Samuel, Mitchell, Reid, Harrington and Charlotte. Jo Ann will be deeply missed by her dear sisters Janet Roberts (Raleigh, NC) and Fran Snyder (Barberton, OH). Arriving on a train from Washington County Monongahela, PA, Jo Ann attended Baldwin Wallace College, graduating in 1956 with her degree in Biochemistry. Love and marriage, to her college sweetheart Jerry, moved Jo Ann to Doylestown and Fredericktown, Ohio, before they settled their family back in Berea in 1969. After having worked at Barberton Hospital from 1957-1962, Jo Ann picked up on her professional career in the Clinical Laboratory at Southwest General Hospital where she would retire as the Director of Environmental Services 25 years later, in 2000. Having earned her MBA, at Baldwin Wallace in 1993, Jo Ann, a woman much before her time, would initiate and drive the conversation on recycling and conservation in hospitals and sterile laboratory environments for years to come. After retirement, fate and faith would ignite Jo Ann to lean into a cause that touched her life deeply, traumatic brain injury. Co-founding Hanson House TBI Clubhouse in 2002, with dear friend Lori Miller Hanson, Jo Ann would go on to accept the Recognition Award from the State of Ohio House of Representatives (2014) and the Berea Spirit of Community Award (2015) on behalf of Hanson House. Of the many gifts Jo Ann blessed us with, she characterized her own self as skilled in the areas of Leadership Development and Business Growth, further she listed Pickleball, Tennis and Board Games. Jo Ann led us to be empowered, spirited and active people, always enjoying games and racket sports with friends and all generations of her blessed family. In her angelic state, it's likely Jo Ann is singing her favorite hymns, as a 7-year Choir Director in Fredericktown and a 50-year choir member at The United Methodist Church of Berea. As a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, Jo Ann exemplified a life of uncompromised and unconditional love, calling all of us to live with and for a higher purpose. Please join us in celebration of her life at The United Methodist Church of Berea on October 21st at 11am, with a meal of fellowship to follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Hanson House TBI Clubhouse (hansonhouseberea.com), in Jo Ann's memory.
