Obituary

Richard Ralph Krisher, 94, of Berea, Ohio, passed away August 14, 2021, with family at his side. He was the loving husband of Jane for 68 years, sweet father of Susie, Laurie and Ann, proud grandpa to six (Katie, Taylor, Ricky, Kara, Jenna and Rachel) and doting great grandpa to identical twins Taylor and Austin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph R. Krisher and Grace K. Krisher, and brother William. Dick was born May 25, 1927, in Massillon, Ohio, spending his early years in Canal Fulton. He showed an early talent for building detailed models. He played violin and later first tuba in Massillon High School's marching band. A brief stint served in the US Navy as the war was ending allowed him to see new areas of the country. He enjoyed many friendships as a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity while attending Baldwin-Wallace College, graduating in 1950. He drove all night with fraternity brothers to see the Indians in the 1948 World Series against Boston, just to turn around and drive straight back in time to attend class the next morning. He met Jane on a double date in January of 1950 and that was that. A dedicated father to three girls, Dick worked in insurance throughout his career in both Cleveland and Cincinnati, where he became a Bengals fan. He continued his father's skills as an avid gardener, laying brick patios and building privacy fences to compliment his flower beds. With his rich bass voice, Dad cajoled St. Paul's church choir for thirty-five years. With patience and skill, he built many beautiful wooden sailing ships which are now treasured family heirlooms. He was very dedicated to family, sharing many holidays with parents and cousins and provided much support in parents' later lives. We remember family road trips to Washington D.C., Cape Cod, Niagara Falls, Connecticut to see his Brother Bill's family, and the outer banks of North Carolina. Their 20th anniversary was celebrated with their first trip to Europe, where they visited Jane's ancestors in Kutenholz, Germany. Following their retirement, Dick and Jane enjoyed travels to many areas of the world, including Europe, Egypt, Jerusalem, Russia, Finland and Alaska. They treasured their time with their "Wisconsin Eight," dear friends. They spent over twenty years as Winter Texans, visiting Laurie's family in Austin and South Padre Island where they learned they loved birding and enjoyed great friendships. A sweet, caring and patient example to his family, his quick wit was enjoyed by all who knew him. He shared that wit and twinkle in his eye through the end of his struggle with failing health. The family is thankful to all who provided medical care, comfort, support, kindness and prayers throughout his journey. A funeral service on Friday, August 20 at 11:00 will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 276 Bagley Road, Berea Ohio, 44017. Viewing and visitation is offered at the church at 10:30, with a luncheon to follow the service, masks and social distancing required. A family burial will occur on Catawba Island, Ohio. If desired, memorials may be made to the church.
