Bruce A. Beatie

BRUCE  ALAN  BEATIE, age 87, of Berea and formerly Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Beloved husband of Therese M. (nee Huzvar) and the late Rita (nee Nicklos). Father of Robert B. and Edward C. (Liz). Grandfather of Sahara and Lisa. Brother of the late Charles (Gloria). Uncle of Brian Beatie and Great Uncle. Son of the late Charles and Marion Berenice (nee Putnam) Beatie. In 1959, he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of California, Berkeley with highest honors, his Master of Arts degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1950, and his PH.D, at Harvard University in 1967. In 1970, he joined Cleveland State University as chair of the Modern Languages Department and continued to teach at CSU until his retirement. He was a Tolkien and Arthurian Scholar.  Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, July 9 at 9:30 a.m. at Mary Queen of the Apostles Parish Catholic Church, 6455 Engle Road, Brook Park, Ohio, 44142. Memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association, or Hospice Services of Southwest General.
