Carolyn Hazard Obituary

CAROLYN ANN (SOMSAK) HAZARD age 78, resident of Berea, beloved wife of John to whom she was married for more than 56 years, dear mother of Daniel (Monica) and Matthew (Trece), cherished grandmother of Magnus and Luna (Jan 2023). Loving sister to Joyce (Don), Cynthia (Dale) and Beverly (Nick).

Carolyn was active in Cub Scouts, Hot Stove Baseball, PTA (elementary, middle, and high school), Berea Animal Rescue, St. Francis Animal Rescue, Venice Little Theater, and as a Venice Hospital Volunteer. Carolyn enjoyed singing and did so with The Gibson Girls, The Choralaires, and The Fiesta Keys over the years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, baking cookies (with vanilla behind her ears), and her flower beds. Carolyn lived in Berea, Brookpark, and Grafton, OH before retiring to Venice, FL where she worked at Wendy’s for fun for 15 years while John was out photographing birds.

Carolyn’s first grade teacher put a comment on her report card: “Carolyn mothers all the children.” It was a trait she showed toward people her entire life not only with her immediate family but also to those she interacted with: friends, acquaintances, and even strangers. Carolyn had a lot of love to give and we fondly remember her as a loving and generous wife, sister, aunt, godmother, and grandmother. She encouraged complete openness of communication with her sons and often got more than she bargained for.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the ALS Association, Northern Ohio Chapter.
