Dorothy “Susan” Sutton

On Wednesday June 26th 2024, Dorothy “Susan” Sutton, loving mom and grandmother, passed away at her home in Strongsville, Ohio at age 85.

Susan was born on May 15th, 1939 in Findlay, Ohio. She grew up in Findlay and completed her undergraduate studies at Bowling Green State University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Her major course of study was Health and Physical Education. Susan began her career in education in the Sandusky City School District and then later moved on to Berea, Ohio. While raising her children and studying to become a licensed real estate agent, she continued her involvement in education as a substitute teacher. Through it all, Susan’s main focus and commitment was her family. She was extremely involved in all of her children’s extracurricular activities and was a Girl Scout troop leader.

Susan enjoyed the family cottage in Marblehead during the summers and over the years took advantage of all that the Lake Erie Islands had to offer. She especially enjoyed the Marblehead Lighthouse and trips to Lonz’s Winery at Middle Bass Island in the many family Lyman’s. She was an avid golfer, loved traveling, and enjoyed the Cleveland sports scene. Susan loved sampling different cuisines and frequenting delicious dining establishments in NE Ohio. She spent time gardening and working in the yard.

Susan will be greatly missed by her daughter Elizabeth Joy Sutton (Kenneth Cumming) of Strongsville; her daughter–in-law Kimberly Sutton of Amherst; and her cherished grandchildren Christian, Madison and Megan. Susan was preceded in death by her father James Martin; her mother Pauline Martin; her brother James Martin Jr.; her son John “Preston” Sutton in 2015; and her husband John Franklin “Jack” Sutton in 2018.

The family will receive friends on Saturday July 27th, 2024, from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the Baker Osinski-Kensinger Funeral Home, 206 Front Street, Berea, Ohio. The Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 PM. At the conclusion of the service, the family of Susan invites all friends to continue the celebration of her life at a venue to be announced.
