Dorothy Virginia Goebel (nee Brandt) died of complications due to dementia on July 7, 2026.
Dorothy was born April 4, 1928, in Berea, Ohio to Ruth and Albert Brandt. She was predeceased
by her parents and brother, as well as her husband of 74 years, Thomas F. Goebel.Dorothy’s
own family included four children: Cheryl A. Boord (Kelly), Richard T. Goebel (Margaret), Robert
M. Goebel (Matthew), and Patricia A. Hritz (Timothy). She leaves behind five grandchildren: Eric
Boord (Isabella), Michael Boord (Jeannie), Jon Goebel (Lindsey), Emily Crowder (David), and
Dane Hritz (Lexi). She is remembered by her great grandchildren: Olivia Boord, Meyer, and
James Goebel, and Gwyneth, Polly, and Marlowe Crowder. Dorothy grew up in Westview (now
Columbia Station) with her parents and one brother, Donald (Donny), who died in 1958.

Dorothy graduated from Olmsted Falls High School in 1946. As a high schooler, Dorothy was a
roller skate enthusiast when the original roller rink was in a building at the Cuyahoga County
Fairgrounds (before the Berea Roll and Bowl was built). After high school, Dorothy worked in
Berea at the Boston Store as well as Berea Community Hospital. It was while working at the
Boston Store, she met Tom and the two were married in 1947.

Tom and Dorothy raised their family on Race St. in Berea. Dorothy was a great mother, making
her home and family atop priority. She was also very active in the early days of the St. Mary’s
Berea Athletic Committee as well as with her Olmsted Falls High School 1946 classmates and
friends. Dorothy and Tom also enjoyed a lake home at Apple Valley in Howard, Ohio from 1978
to 1998.

As a retired couple, Dorothy and Tom were well known in Berea’s Active Senior Network and
the Berea Historical Society. She also became an accomplished painter working under the
guidance of JoAnne Richter at the Strongsville Rec Center. Much of Dorothy’s work can be seen
today at Kemper House where she lived her final years.
