Elizabeth Snodgrass Obituary

Elizabeth May Snodgrass 94, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026.

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 29, 1932. She was a resident of Berea for more than 74 years. Elizabeth graduated from Baldwin Wallace College with a degree in Education. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority for over 75 years. On August 2, 1952 she married James Snodgrass. They were married for 45 years. She was a member of The Christian Science Church.

Elizabeth started as a teacher of Home Economics and Spanish in the Westlake City schools, and continued off and on as a substitute teacher in the Berea City Schools, Olmsted Falls City Schools and at the Polaris Career Center. She retired from teaching at the age of 88. Every where she went, former students would remember her from her days as a substitute teacher.

Sewing and making things was the focus of Elizabeth’s life. She was a regular at the Pins and Needles Sewing store, and Berea Mill Stream Quilt Guild. She belonged to the Retired Home Economics in Home & Community Professional Network, the Berea Historical Society, and the Cleveland Museum of Art.

She spent her summers sailing with her husband on their sailboats Funday and then Fantastic and at the family Middle Bass Island cottage. She was a lifelong member of Middle Bass Yacht Club and a former member with her husband of Sandusky Sailing Club and the Interlake Yachting Association.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband James Snodgrass, her daughter Anne Snodgrass, and her sister Mildred Sutton. She is survived by her children Lynn (Mark) Damberger of Ashland, Ohio, and Robert (Karen) Snodgrass of Olmsted Falls, Ohio. Grandchildren Andrew Damberger (Jenna), Katherine Snodgrass (Chris), Charles Damberger (Martina Garda), and Jennifer Snodgrass. Great-grandchildren Benjamin Damberger Garda, Henry Damberger and Annabella Damberger Garda. Sister Edna Jean (Earl) Hensel of Nashville, Tennessee.   

Visitation will be held on June 12, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Baker Kensinger Funeral Home, Berea with a memorial service to follow at 7:00.

A private family burial will take place at a later date. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Baldwin Wallace University, National Museum of the Great Lakes or Berea Historical Society.
