Eric Karl Shalkhauser, age 68, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Eric was born and raised in Berea, Ohio, then remained a steadfast resident of the Berea area his entire life. He was preceded in death by his parents; Barbara M. Shalkhauser and Ronald E. Shalkhauser. Eric is survived by his brothers Kurt (Mary Jo) of Amherst, Ohio; Judd (Leyla) of Alto, New Mexico; and Paul of Berea, Ohio; niece Amanda, and nephews Jacob and Lucas. Eric was skilled in many construction and renovation trades, and excelled as a carpenter. He wasted nothing, and was instead an avid collector of all things, one who truly appreciated the provenance and function of each piece. He then had the amazing ability to accurately remember the precise location of each item within his seemingly chaotic storage system. Eric greatly enjoyed music of many types and was never far from a radio or recording of his favorite performers. Eric wanted to thank his family and many life-long friends for their support during his health struggles.
Following Eric’s wishes, no services are planned. In lieu of flowers and if you are so moved, his family asks that donations be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve in his memory.
