Helmut H. Dickerhof, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Thursday February 8 at the age of 89.
Born on May 27, 1934 in Lingenfeld, Germany, he joined the United States Army in 1953 where he proudly served for three years. While in Germany, he married his love Vera, and moved to the United States in 1957. He became a machinist by trade and retired from Haserodt Tool and Die in 1996.
Helmut was an active member of the Cleveland Maennorchoir. He started with the Lingenfeld Maennorchoir at the age of 14 and received his 70-year plaque and a certificate from the German Chorverband Berlin. He also received the Man of the Year Award from the German Federation. He was an assistant scoutmaster for Berea Troop 345 for many years.
Helmut was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Magdelane Dickerhof, and siblings Christel Brubacher and Walter Dickerhof, all of Germany. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Vera; daughter Norma Hammond (George), sons Michael (JoEllen) and Helmut Jr; grandchildren Heather Hammond, Eric Hammond, and Haley Dickerhof; great-grandchildren Payton and Madison Ford; and in Germany, siblings Ursula Spann and Herbert Dickerhof and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Berea, OH on Saturday, February 24 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Cleveland Maennorchor, 4515 State Rd., Cleveland OH 44109
