Jay John Frawley, 86, of Columbia Station passed away on Saturday January 15, 2022 at Ames Western Reserve Hospice from complications of Covid. He was born on October 25, 1935 in North Olmsted. Jay was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Della, and his 3 brothers Howard, Calvin, and Daniel.
Jay is survived by his wife of almost 65 years Jeanette, their 4 children Lawrence (Alice), Christine (Doug Vorisek), John, Vickie (Mitch Skowronsky). Grandchildren Lora, Lawrence Jr., Lucas, David, Michael, Rachel, Scott, Nichole, Samantha, Jacob, Benjamin. Great-grandchildren Aidan, Austin, Sydney, Kayla, Damien, Hayden, Crew.
Jay didn’t have a lot of formal education, but even as a youngster he worked hard and set goals to make enough money for what he wanted to buy. Whether it was clothes to impress the ladies, a new car, or eventually the property he had his eyes on in Columbia Station. Jay was 18 years old when he started courting Jean (aka Sunshine). They were dating when Jay bought the land on Folley road in 1953 and they got married in 1957. While the house was being built, they lived in a small trailer that was parked on the property. In that trailer their first two children Larry and Chris were born. Jay, his brother Dan, and a few good friends finished building the house in 1959. John and Vickie were born, and their family was complete. Jay built the first greenhouse in 1969. As time went by, more greenhouses went up, and by the late 1980’s both Jay and Jean left their full-time jobs to run J&J Greenhouse. From then on Jay spent his days working in the greenhouses, breaking only to watch The Price is Right and Judge Judy. Even when he needed a scooter to get around, people were amazed by how much he accomplished. We joked that if you ever saw him staring off into the distance, he wasn’t daydreaming, that’s when you knew he had a plan to build something and was trying to figure out how he would get it done. Some people have hobbies, or want to go on a vacation to relax. Not JayJay, he had it all right there on Folley Road. For him, the business was his hobby and his happy place. We’ve only begun to realize how much he will be missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting a donation be made to the Columbia Township Fireman's Association and sent to P.O. Box 819, Columbia Station, OH 44028. . Not only do they do so much for the community, their assistance over the years to our family has been so appreciated. There are no public services planned.
