Joanne Marie Anderson (nee Kowalski), 83, of Kent, Ohio, departed this world on May 21, 2026 at Portage Medical Center in Ravenna, Ohio. Her suffering is now over and she said she was ready many times. Born February 7, 1943 in Toledo, Ohio. She was the daughter of Dorothy Ann Kowalski (nee Lewandowski) and William Joseph Kowalski. Joanne graduated high school with her GED. She lived her life in Toledo, Ohio, Denver, Colorado and Kent, Ohio. She had over 50 years of dedicated work in the food and beverage industry, moving from server and bartender to bar manager and restaurant manager for multiple businesses. She finally retired after many years as the beloved bar manager at the Bavarian Sports Club in Toledo, Ohio. She had a deep passion for all of her pets, and donated untold amounts of money to animal rescue organizations, wildlife causes and environmental interests. She was a huge sports fan that followed the Indians/Guardians, Browns, Broncos, Cavs, The Ohio State and Notre Dame. She was also a keen enthusiast of Hollywood stars and TV shows of all types, with her favorites being British murder mysteries and the American legal/cop/murder genres. Joanne is survived by brother William Kowalski of Tacoma, Washington, stepbrother Richard Schurfeld, son Vincent Komenda of Kent, Ohio as well as multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and so many people she came in contact with over the years that loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and William, sister Lindy Holas, sister Dolores “Dolly” Hamilton, August “Red” Schurfeld, husband Ronald Komenda and husband Robert Anderson. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be sent to organizations related to animal rescue, wildlife protection and the environment.
