June Shirley (Mills) Demmerle

June Shirley Demmerle 1937 - 2023

June Shirley Demmerle joined her husband, Dave Ross Demmerle, in eternal rest June 12, 2023.

She turned 86 on June 1st. Her long life was full of love. She was married to Dave Demmerle for 41 years. (He was a coach and professor in physical education at Baldwin Wallace University and passed away in 2006). They lived in Berea, Ohio and had three children, Ross, Keith, and Mark and four grandchildren, Luke, Taylor, Lance and Peyton.

June was born in Ashtabula, Ohio to Shirley and Theodore Mills and brother James Mills. She received her bachelor's degree in English and Spanish from The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio.

After graduation June, lived abroad in Argentina, and then came back to teach high school Spanish at Shaker Heights High School where she met Dave. When Dave took a position at Baldwin Wallace University the two of them moved to Berea where June gave birth and raised 3 boys.

June then took a position with the American Language Academy (ALA) that was then affiliated with Baldwin Wallace. At ALA she taught English as a secondary language to foreign students and was the director of housing. In addition to her excellent teaching, she worked with the university to house students and frequently found homestays in and around Berea for countless students, often taking them in her own home as well.

In her retirement, June and Dave enjoyed spending time in Florida and gardening at their home in Berea. Additionally, June worked with the Berea Historical Society and was an active member of The United Methodist Church of Berea.

She will be remembered for her kind and caring way as a daughter, spouse, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, June 23rd, 5:00PM at the United Methodist Church of Berea, 170 Seminary Street, Berea, Ohio 44017.
