Leonard Francis Skowron

LEONARD FRANCIS SKOWRON

Leonard Francis Skowron passed away on December 5, 2025, after a century of life. Born on June 20, 1925 in Cleveland to Maryanna (Rechtman) and Michael Skowron, he spent much of his youth in Strongsville, Ohio.

When the US entered World War II, he joined the navy and was assigned to the USS Allen M. Sumner. His ship was deployed to the Pacific where he survived some fierce battles. He was discharged in May 1946.

After the war he married Phoebe Caffee in 1949 and the two enjoyed 76 years together, happily married and devoted to each other. They moved to Berea in 1951 where they raised their family of seven children.

Leonard and Phoebe’s lives were centered around their children. He worked hard to provide a safe and comfortable home for them. Leonard worked several jobs, as a printsetter at Berea News, at a carpet shop and at the Chevrolet factory before joining the Berea School District in 1958 as a custodian. He retired in 1985.

Leonard and Phoebe emphasized education and are proud that all of their children completed college. The growing family now includes 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren (with one on the way).

Leonard was appreciated for his even temper, his corny jokes and his use of new and interesting words. His beautiful voice and love for music were always part of his character.

Preceded in death by two children, Irene Hagemeier and Linda Mezo, he is survived by his wife Phoebe and five children: John (Cassell) Skowron, Ruth (Lester) Jones, Diane (Jack) Spiegler, Carol (Joe Pitcavage) Skowron and Sharon (Karl) Nollsch.

At the end of his life, Leonard had many friends and special caregivers at the Middleburg Heights Assisted Living facility.

Visitation will be Saturday December 13, 2025 at Baker Kensinger Funeral Home, 206 Front Street, Berea, Ohio 44017. from 2:00 to 3:30 P.M then brief remarks and remembrances starting at 3:30.

Graveside Service will be at 11:00 A.M on Monday December 15 at Woodvale Cemetery, 7535 Engle Road Middleburg Heights, Ohio 44130.
