Patricia Anne McDivitt, lovingly known as Pat, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of January 1, 2025, at The Renaissance in Olmsted Falls, OH. Pat was 92 years old. Pat was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and community. Born on October 24, 1932 in Lakewood OH, Pat was the third child of Isabel and William Haas. She was predeceased by her siblings Tommy, Duke and Nancy, and is survived by her sisters Mary Therese Sanders and Susan (Gordon) Roberts. Pat was a proud graduate of Lakewood High School in 1950, where she excelled as a member of the Honor Society and a majorette in the marching band. She furthered her education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology in 1954. Pat's journey took her beyond her hometown, where she worked as a medical social worker with the American Red Cross at Fort Dix in Pemberton, NJ. It is here she met her future husband, James A. McDivitt. The couple married on June 16, 1956, and for the next 25 years, Pat was the epitome of a devoted wife and mother. As Jim’s career evolved from Experimental Test Pilot to Astronaut, Pat gracefully and bravely handled their home life from New Jersey to Michigan, California and eventually settled in Houston Texas, raising their four children: Michael, Ann, Patrick, and Katie. Her role during this time was invaluable, providing stability and love while Jim worked long hours on the Gemini and Apollo space programs. After Jim’s retirement from the Space Program, the family moved to Jackson, Michigan, and then to Chicago, Illinois. Following 25 years of marriage, Pat and Jim divorced. Undeterred by this life change, Pat returned to school and graduated top of her class in nursing school in 1984. She moved back to her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, where she worked as a Registered Nurse in the Oncology Department at Southwest General Hospital and later as a Hospice Nurse, providing compassionate care to those in need until her retirement in 1998. Her devotion to the care of others left a lasting impact on her colleagues and patients. Pat was an avid sports fan her entire life. After retiring, Pat found great joy when she became Director of Fan Services and an usher for the Cleveland Indians, positions she cherished for 18 years. Her dedication was evident as she rarely missed a game and was first promoted to oversee a section of Jacob’s Field before eventually being asked to manage the entire usher program. Pat loved celebrating the game and creating connections with fellow fans, ushers and family. Pat was the most loving, supportive, and dedicated mother. She tirelessly juggled the whirlwind schedules for swimming, diving and gymnastics – chauffeuring and coordinating pick-ups and drop-offs, preparing multiple dinners so everyone was well-fed no matter the hour. Mom never missed a competition, recital, or graduation, cheering from the stands with unwavering pride and love. Her presence was a constant source of encouragement, making every moment special. She adored her grandkids and took every opportunity to spoil them with love and attention. As their biggest fan, Pat cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines at many soccer, baseball and basketball games. As World’s Greatest Babysitter, she created a warm and nurturing environment, filled with fun, laughter, and cherished memories. Her love for her children and grandkids was boundless, and she found joy in every moment spent with them, leaving an
indelible mark on their hearts. Pat is survived by her children: Michael, Ann, Patrick, and Katie (Mark), along with seven grandchildren (Christopher, Matthew, Patrick, Liam, Ethan, Ginny and Wayne) and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Pat’s legacy of kindness, grace, and resilience will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered. A visitation to honor Patricia’s life and legacy will be held on Thursday, January 9th from 5:00 to 7:00PM at Baker Kensinger Funeral Home located at 206 Front St. in Berea. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Friday, January 10th, at 11:30AM at St. Joseph’s Church located at 12700 Pearl Rd in Strongsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northeast Ohio Hospice, an organization Patricia held dear.
