Richard F. Hantel of Columbia Township, Ohio, went to his Heavenly home at the age of 85 on January 16, 2022. He is survived by his wife Lynn (née Becker), brother Ed, sisters Edna Tabor and Rita Wright, children Valerie Jipner, Holly Tate (Skip),and Mark Hantel (Jennifer), step-children Daniel Newman (Rebecca), and Heather Madjar (Joseph), grandchildren Samuel, Jamie, Jessica, Tina, step-grandchildren Alexander, Kayleigh, Mitchell & Abbigale, and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Ted.
The most important things in his life were faith, family, and work. He was a long-time attendee, church council member and dedicated Sunday school teacher at Puritas Lutheran Church, All Saints Lutheran Church, and Hosanna Lutheran Church. Richard made sure that his family was well cared for. He was a land surveyor and long-time proprietor of The Western Reserve Surveying Company and The Bauer Surveys Company. As a member of the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio, Richard was nominated Surveyor of the Year by the Cleveland chapter in 1993 and was President of the Cleveland Chapter in 1995. He was a volunteer and member of Friends of the Kennedy Stone House at Salt Fork State Park, and a long time member of the Columbia Historical Society.
Viewing will be from 5-8 PM on Friday, January 21st, at Baker-Osinski-Kensinger Funeral Home, 206 Front Street, Berea. Service will be at Hosanna Lutheran Church, Columbia Township, on Saturday at 10 AM with burial in Lutheran Cemetery to follow.
