Richard “Rich” Mahon
With great sadness the family of Richard “Rich” E. Mahon announces his passing at age 94 on March 23 2026.
Rich was born on July 12, 1931, the son of Elmer Mahon and Eleanor (Murphy), brother to Beverly Mahon (Daniel). All preceded him in death.
Rich married the love of his life, Ellen P. Martino (deceased) and together they had 5 children and was a devoted father: Richard M. Mahon (Beth Zergott), Michele Mills (William), Victoria Wood (Michael Schellenberger (deceased) and Alan Wood, deceased)), Patricia Mahon (deceased) and Sharon Shivak (Stephen). He was fortunate to find love again after the death of Ellen and married Rose Johnson (Gavel deceased).
Rich was the loving grandfather of Shyla (deceased), Amber (deceased) Jacqueline (Brett), Michael (Patty), Jason (Lisa), Alycia (John), Rachael, Stephen and Brittany. He had 8 great grandchildren with a 9th on the way and also many loving nieces and nephews.
Rich was a graduate of West Tech High School. He served honorably in the Korean War and after the war, he came home, married his High School sweetheart Ellen and built a life which centered around family.
Rich loved people. He will be remembered for his engaging personality, quick wit and abiding friendships. He was honest, hardworking was well liked and respected and had a deep sense of integrity. He was fortunate to find love twice in his life and was a devoted husband. He loved his job in sales at CE Raymond. He worked until he was 80.
Rich enjoyed dancing, playing cards (he counted them), golfing and travelling. He took daily walks for most of his adult life. His walks were legendary among family members so much so the family coined his long, walks “Mahon walks”.
His was a life which was lived with vibrancy and optimism. He always led with kindness and quiet strength. He will be missed by all of us who loved him.
The family will hold a funeral mass on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 10:00 am at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, 10205 Lorain Rd., Cleveland OH.
