Richard (Dick/Whitey) F. Ohm (96), as Captain, took his final flight on June 4, 2023. Already in the cockpit was his wife of 49 years, Shirley (nee Narrows) Ohm, riding in the jump seat, while his son, Russ H. Ohm, was already sitting in the co-pilot’s seat. Watching him leave from the earthly terminal, were his other children, Elaine Ohm (James McClintock), Nancy Skala (Ken) and David Ohm, along with his grandchildren, Angela Funk (Brian), Danielle Skala (Josh), Matt Skala and Hannah and Josiah Ohm as well as step grandchildren, Peg Spears (Wes), Lauren McClintock, Ken Skala Jr (Nikki) and Kris Skala (Taryn). His great grandsons, Wyatt and Weston Funk also waved goodbye at the gate. Richard was heard to mutter on his way to the cockpit, “Third star on the left and straight on until morning….Peter Pan didn’t know what he was talking about.”
Richard was born on March 24, 1927, and was the last to pass of his 4 siblings. He celebrated his 96th birthday this year at the Plum Creek Assisted Living facility in which he became a resident in October of 2022. Richard remained in “assisted living” until mid-May when he became very ill and was put on Hospice Care. The illness, coupled with his dementia, caused his health to completely decline, which ultimately led to Richards final take-off.
