Russell A Sanderson Jr. 91 passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025 Russell was born an raised in Berea, Ohio & was a lifelong resident. It was a community that he proudly served and where he not only met his one true love Sherla Foster but also raised his 4 children.
Russell joined the Marine Corps during the Korean War at the age of 18. It was there that participated in the defense of UN Positions. During his time there he was awarded many medals for his service which is something that he held dear and was very proud of.
One thing about Russell that everyone knew was his love of the outdoors. When he wasn’t working for Marathon Oil company he could often be found boating around The Great Lakes with Sherla and the kids, hunting in the mountains of Pennsylvania with his friends or going on a joy ride on one of his Harley Davidsons. He was also Captain of the Rocky River Power Squadron.
Despite all his achievements as a star athlete and in the Marine Corps what he was really most proud of was his family. Not a minute went by when he wasn’t talking happily about Sherla, his wife of 67 years, his 4 children and 13 grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his wife Sherla and parents Russell Sr. and Louise Sanderson. He is survived by his 4 children, Russell A. III (Susan), Liz (Michael) Symon, Heather Sanderson, Marilyn (Michael) Herschman. His 13 grandchildren, Jake, Kyle (Krista), Claire, Russell IV, Charley, Johnny, Sam, Josef, Jackson, Henry, Dean, Skye, and Jack; 6 great grandchildren, Luna, Nora, Emerson, Butch, Artcher and Indigo. His sisters, Shirley Schmitt and Ellen Oakley.
And as Russell would always say... “See ya in Berea”
Pastor Dr. Stephen Knisely will conduct a Memorial Service at the United Methodist Church of Berea on Saturday, February 15,2025 at 11:00 A.M.
