Shirley Jean Friedrich
Born 5/9/1937. Died 6/17/2023
Beloved wife of the late Milton O. Friedrich. Dear mother of Julie (Vernon) Butler, Larry (Marina) Friedrich, and Leslie (Anthony) Sorbello. Daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Lou Hurst, Sister of the late Jerry Hurst, Leroy Hurst, Johnny Hurst, Jeren Hasty and Linda Willis, and sister to Earl Hurst. Loving grandmother to Todd (Erin) Butler, Keli (Jody) Helman, Jesse Butler, David (Ivy) Friedrich, Michael (Greer) Friedrich, Stephen Friedrich, Billie Friedrich, Jeremiah Friedrich, Hope Friedrich, Nicole (Randy) Roff, and Joseph (Angela) Sorbello. Great grandmother of 10. Jean was born in Camilla, Georgia but lived most of her life in Berea, Ohio. Jean raised her three children and also helped raise countless others, neighbors and friends’ children as well as care for her parents, in laws and sisters in law toward the end of their lives. She was a born caregiver. Even in her last days – caring and helping others at the assisted living facility where she lived. She was very knowledgeable about every kind of plant, flower, and tree. She was a proud member of the Berea Bud N Bloom Garden club for many years. She taught Sunday School and prepared flower arrangements for the alter at Berea Baptist Church for many years. She volunteered at the gift shop at Southwest Hospital for over 30 years. She was passionate about her family and loved fiercely. She would light up talking about her family – both her Georgia family as well as her Ohio family. She was a colorful storyteller and loved meeting and talking to people. No one was a stranger. Jean enjoyed collecting church cookbooks, cooking and trying new recipes. It is hard to sum up her life in a paragraph of two. She was so much more than these mere works could express. Recently a friend told her what a blessing her family was to her. She was very blessed! She would say “my heart is so full.” Jean’s faith was very important to her, and she lived out her faith in a way that showed in everything. Jean inspired each of her children in their faith. She was an example to all of us. Truly a one-of-a-kind personality. She would call each of her children and grand children on their birthdays and sing Happy Birthday to them. Jean will be so missed by all who knew her. Family suggests memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Funeral Service, Tuesday, June 20 at 12Noon at Baker-Osinski-Kensinger Funeral Home, 206 Front Street, Berea, Ohio, where friends may call Tuesday Morning from 10:00 to 12Noon(time of service.)
