Shirley B.. (Brookins) Hecker

Shirley Brookins Hecker, 95, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2024.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bob, and is survived by her three children, Darci Spilman (Hank, dec.), David Hecker (Sue) and Don Hecker, and by her grandchildren Lee (Heather), Jack, Jonathan, Adam, Carly, Anne and Sophie, and her great-granddaughters Stella and Frankie Lee.  Shirley is also survived by her sister, Alice Britt, and many loving members of her family and of her late husband Bob’s family.  She was loved by her family, and by all who knew her. 

Shirley grew up in North Olmsted, attended Miami of Ohio and taught art for several years.  She and Bob raised their active family in Olmsted Falls where Shirley became well known as an artist.  She provided a sketched drawing on slate to the citizen of the year of Olmsted Falls for over 35 years.  Her unique carvings on wood and slate depicting local scenes remain a treasure to our community.  Shirley continued her artwork throughout her life, still doodling and sketching well into her 90’s. 

Shirley was happy taking meditative walks, reading, enjoying music, and living a balanced, faithful, and healthy life.  She was a creative and loving mother and grandmother, who truly delighted in her family.  She volunteered in big and small ways in the Olmsted Falls community, and will be well remembered for her sense of humor, creativity and kindness. 

Celebration of Life Saturday, June 22 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Baker-Osinski-Kensinger Funeral Home, 206 Front Street, Berea, Ohio, 44017. A memorial service will be held at the Olmsted Falls Community Church, 7854 Main Street, Olmsted Falls, Ohio, 44138, on Monday, June 24th at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Gift of Legacy of Olmsted Community Church.
